Southern Exposure

The south island exemplifies the great outdoors. Bigger in size but with one third of the population of its North Island neighbour, you would not be blamed for thinking that the South Island just feels bigger, especially with its sprawling landscapes.

Queenstown makes this island known as the adventure island of New Zealand, combining this with the large amounts of open land, make tourism and farming the main industries down south. Read on to explore...

Snow Capped Mountains

Mountain lovers out there will instantly be drawn to the South Island. The Southern Alps split the South Island right down the middle. While the North Island have its own volcanic mountains to boast about, they really are nothing in comparison to the South. Snow capped peaks make for good skiing or snowboarding,  or to just go for a wander and breath in the stunning landscapes.

Slow Down, Get Laid Back

Once you traverse the Cook Strait from the North into the South you will immediately notice a difference, not only with the landscape and topography, but the pace of life is just far slower and laid back and some say the people are even friendlier down south too!

Adrenaline Junkies

Despite the laid back nature of the south, adrenaline junkies swarm here and for very good reason. White water rafting, sky diving, bungee jumping and the shotover jet boat are all available in Queenstown. Not only are the activities themselves awesome, but the locations they are done in are just stupidly beautiful. Home to the world famous Nevis jump, reaching a terrifying height of 143 meters, with smaller jumps and ledge swings available too, you are sure to raise your heartbeat a few notches.

Below the activities underneath is a complete list of all the best and most popular places on New Zealand's South Island, check each of them out and see what interest you. And of course our good friends at Stray have an amazing South Island tour which is hop on/hop for 12 months and the best way to get around the wonderful South Island. Drop us an email or FB message if you would like to know more or click the Chat/Help button on the left side of your screen to chat with us live or send us a direct message!
